Anxiety is a persistent state of apprehension or physiological arousal, often characterized by excessive worry about future events rather than immediate threats. I use several modalities to tackle anxiety, namely to calm the nervous system through talk therapy, neurofeedback and EMDR. In an integrative framework, I also incorporate nutritional psychology. The "gut-brain axis" is central, as an imbalance in the microbiome can trigger inflammatory signals that heighten the nervous system's sensitivity to stress.

Trauma occurs when an individual experiences an overwhelming event that exceeds their ability to cope, often leaving the nervous system stuck in a state of hyper-vigilance or shutdown. Calming the nervous system to open the window of tolerance is a critical component of addressing PTSD. I use a multi-modal approach to talk therapy, EMDR, Neurofeedback and somatic processing. In addition, research suggests that trauma can alter the gut lining (increasing permeability), which may lead to chronic systemic inflammation that keeps the body in a perpetual state of physical and emotional distress.

A concussion or traumatic brain injury (TBI) can leave the brain dysregulated—stuck in cycles of headaches, disrupted sleep, difficulty focusing, and emotional overwhelm. Even when scans look "normal," the nervous system can remain stuck in a state of dysfunction long after the injury. Calming and retraining the nervous system is a critical component of recovery.

I use a multi-modal approach combining Neurofeedback, EMDR, talk therapy, and somatic processing to help the brain learn to self-regulate and heal. Of particular promise is Infra-Low Frequency (ILF) neurofeedback: a 2025 VA randomized controlled trial found that ILF neurofeedback significantly reduced headaches, insomnia, and attention disorders in combat veterans with post-concussive symptoms, with improvements in sleep, cognition, quality of life, and depressive and PTSD symptoms that remained stable over the study period.¹

In addition, research increasingly points to the gut-brain connection in recovery. Supporting gut health may help reduce the chronic neuroinflammation that can slow the brain's natural healing process and prolong symptoms.

Attachment refers to the deep, enduring emotional bond formed between individuals, particularly between a child and their primary caregiver, which shapes future relational patterns. Building a coherent narrative about our attachments through relational talk therapy, is a critical component to overcoming attachment injury. In addition, the gut-brain connection is established in early development, making secure attachment a pillar of a healthy internal environment, whereas attachment disruptions can manifest as digestive sensitivities and a compromised stress response.

The Gut-Brain Connection: Why Your Microbiome Matters

The "second brain" in your gut is in constant communication with your central nervous system via the vagus nerve and biochemical signaling. When the delicate balance of your microbiome is disrupted, it doesn’t just stay in your stomach; it directly impacts your mood, clarity, and emotional resilience. Effective detoxification is a cornerstone of systemic health, acting as a primary defense against the chronic inflammation that underlies many modern ailments.
